Despite both the Dead Rising and the Resident Evil series being popular survival horror games about zombie made by Capcom, the undead from the two games are completely unrelated to one another.
The objective of the game is mainly to try to survive and kill as many zombies as possible before the player's character die.
The game takes place in an open world environment, like Grand Theft Auto. The game is set in the fictional city of Willamette, Colorado (almost entirely spent trapped within the Willamette Parkview Mall), and the player's character—photojournalist Frank West—just goes on and on killing zombies and saving survivors until the character dies, all the while trying to discover the mystery behind the outbreak. The game is notable for having hundreds of weapons and attack moves for the character to use during play and for players being able to save progress once their character dies.
Sequels and spin-offs
In 2009 a remake, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop was released, but an official sequel, Dead Rising 2, was released in 2010; also in 2010, a non-canon version of Dead Rising 2 starring Frank West as the protagonist again was released, called Dead Rising 2: Off the Record. The trilogy was rounded off with Dead Rising 3 on November 22, 2013.
