Jack-o-Lantern design
One Halloween activity is pumpkin carving or the creation of the "best" jack-o-lantern. Some jack-o-lanterns have scary faces, others portray images or scenes for the holiday. Sometimes the winning pumpkin will be put in a show or have its picture taken.

Sometimes instead of cutting or carving pumpkins, other fruits or gourds are used. Especially when children are involved, painting or drawing may be used to decorate the pumpkins like jack-o-lanterns instead of carving.
