"Cracked" is a Halloween episode of the live-action TV series NCIS.
Co-created by Donald Bellisario as one of CBS' answers to NBC's highly popular police procedural drama TV show Law & Order (alongside their CSI franchise), NCIS (originally Naval NCIS in Season 1) is a spin-off of JAG and follows a team of fictional special agents who work for the Naval Criminal Investigative Search agency that investigates crimes involving the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps. The show was further spun off of following Season 6 as NCIS: Los Angeles and again in Season 11 as NCIS: New Orleans.
The show follows the investigative work performed by Supervisor Leroy Gibbs, Senior Agent Anthony DiNozzo, Forensic Specialist and goth Abby Sciuto, Chief Medical Examiner Donald "Ducky" Mallard, Special Agent Timothy McGee, and Mossad Officer Ziva David, as they try and piece together the evidence of crimes to discover who the culprit was and arrest them for a military trial.
While the team investigate a Navy researcher who died after being struck by a bus, Abby becomes fixated on a series of patterns of mysterious codes written on the victim's body. But the team soon begin to worry that Abby is becoming too obsessed with cracking the codes rather than helping them find who is responsible for the victim's death.
